Update from George's mom

George came to us as a tiny puppy from a family who lived down the street. They were moving and were planning to leave him behind! He became very attached to me and very rarely leaves my side. Every morning I would find him laying outside the shower to wait for me!!! I have a black Lab and a chocolate Lab and he quite simply completes our "pack"! He's funny (sits on a chair at the table with the daycare kids when they're doing crafts!) and quirky and always willing to play. Needless to say, we miss him very much and can't wait to bring him home!

Here's a picture of him as a puppy:

SIGHTING: 09/29/09, 1:00 pm, back in North Springfield!

The caller saw a dog who looked like George in North Springfield at Heming and Jervis. She couldn't tell if he was more black or tan because he was very dirty and he was wearing a chain hanging down. She said he looked like he'd been out and about for quite awhile.

We're not sure if this is the same dog that was seen in Falls Church yesterday, or a different dog.

We still need assistance spreading the word about George. Please join us!

SIGHTING: 09/28/09, 2:30 pm, Falls Church

We received a call from a gentleman who thinks he spotted George near Banneker dog park in Falls Church. He was trotting down Noland towards Rt 7.

We're working to reach out to folks in Falls Church by contacting neighborhood listserves and area schools--but we need help flyering and handing out George's business cards, too. Please join the effort to bring George back to safety!

George was also seen in Falls Church last week, on Cherry Street between Rte 50 and Hillwood Avenue around 8:30 am.

We need to get this new area covered with flyers--can you help?

GREAT track update, and a video

Just heard from Sam, the tracker. She ran a two-hour track on George that went from the sighting yesterday back to within a block of the owner's home, and then back to the sighting area from yesterday. They ended at a creek.

A feeding station has been set up at the creek. There is a flat area there, so we may be able to get a trap set up at some point. Georege's owner has been instructed to collect scent (by soaking dirty clothes in a bucket) and then spray that scent on a trail from the creek to her home, to lure George back to her home.

We'll try and get a camera out to see who is eating from the feeding station.

Anyone interested in monitoring the camera or the feeding station?

Here's some video of how Sam, our tracker, works!

Starting outreach

We have a few volunteers ready to start flyering the North Springfield neighborhood--but we could use a lot more folks on the ground. Can you join us?

We're reaching out to schools and places of worship in the area and will start reaching out to area listserves, too.

If you can help with off-site outreach or on-the-ground tasks, please let us know!

Available to walk with the tracker?

Sam, with Pure Gold Pet Trackers is available to help us track George, but we need a volunteer to accompany her. If you're available, please let us know ASAP by leaving a comment!

Thanks!

Help find George!

George was spotted this morning in North Springfield near Hogarth Street off of Hemming Avenue. The woman who spotted him stopped and called to him but he ran off. If you spot him, please call Jaime at 703-380-0201 during the weekdays or Barbara at 703-354-1805 on weekends and evenings. Barbara does home daycare so she can not leave during the day, but I work close so am able to come right away. He has always been friendly, slightly hyper and a little skittish, but I would think he is even more so now being on his own for so long.

He is my mom's dog, she is just hearbroken since he has been gone for about 6 weeks now. Any help would be appreciated!
